South Plains College will celebrate it's recent National Championship in men's basketball with a community celebration Tuesday. The victory celebration is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Texan Dome on the SPC campus in Levelland.
Last week, the Texans men's basketball team won the NJCAA National Championship by defeating Salt Lake (UT) in the finals. It is the school's first-ever NJCAA National title in basketball.
Tuesday's celebration is free and open to the public. Doors to the Texan Dome will open at 5:30 p.m. The team and coaches will be introduced and will receive congratulatory proclamations from SPC President Dr. Kelvin Sharp, the City of Levelland and Lubbock Mayor David Miller. The SPC cheerleaders will do a cheer and perform a dance, and free hot dogs and drinks will be available. Also, the first 1000 people to come through the door will get a free SPC National Championship T-Shirt.
"We, of course, are proud of the team and we know that our fans and community members are proud of them as well," SPC athletic director Joe Tubb said. "We rely on the support of the people of Levelland and this area and we realize they had a part in helping us win this championship. We hope everyone will be in attendance on Tuesday to help us celebrate."
